OVERVIEW
The Australian College of Information Technology English Communication Program provides a structured pathway for speakers of other languages to progressively build English communication skills. Students will gain a nationally recognised qualification at each level of achievement. Students may enter and exit the program at any level. The program culminates in a Diploma of Advanced English Communication.
Qualifications
Certificate I in Elementary English Communication 30754QLD
Prerequisites
• A Certificate in Basic English Communication or,
• An IELTS score of 3.5 or above (though not necessary) or,
• An equivalent score in an alternative English Proficiency Test such as TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge Test or,
• Successfully completed a basic English course at a language school or,
• Placement test to determine level if need be
Units
• Gather and provide basic information
• Make and respond to basic verbal requests
• Purchase a ticket
• Order a simple meal from a menu
• Provide basic autobiographical information
• Conduct and participate in a basic interview
• Purchase basic retail goods
• Provide basic descriptions
• Participate in the organisation of a simple outing
• Participate in a basic discussion
• Understand basic oral and written texts
• Produce basic written texts
• Use Elementary English for communication

TOTAL DURATION: 18 weeks - consiting of 12 weeks of classes and up to 6 weeks holiday
Certificate II in Pre-Intermediate English Communication 30755QLD
Prerequisites
• An IELTS score of 4.0 or above (though not necessary) or,
• An equivalent score in an alternative English Proficiency Test such as TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge Test or,
• A Certificate I in Elementary English Communication or (EECOM100) or,
• Successfully completed an Intermediate English course at a language school or,
• Placement test to determine level if need be

• Conduct and participate in a simple interview
• Recount a memorable experience
• Make a basic presentation
• Negotiate a simple oral transaction
• Purchase common retail goods and services
• Provide and comprehend directions
• Contribute to a simple discussion forum
• Understand simple oral and written texts
• Produce simple written texts
• Make simple plans
• Use Pre-intermediate English for communication

TOTAL DURATION: 18 weeks - consiting of 12 weeks of classes and up to 6 weeks holiday
Certificate III in Intermediate English Communication 30756QLD
Prerequisites
• An IELTS score of 4.5 or above (though not necessary) or,
• An equivalent score in an alternative English Proficiency Test such as TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge Test or,
• A Certificate II in Pre-Intermediate English Communication or (IECOM200) or,
• Successfully completed an Intermediate English course at a language school or,
• Placement test to determine level if need be

• Understand oral and written texts
• Promote consumer products and services
• Make a small group presentation
• Apply for a job
• Write a critical review
• Purchase goods and services
• Participate in a discussion
• Narrate a detailed story
• Use Intermediate English for communication

Certificate IV in Upper Intermediate English Communication 30757QLD
Prerequisites
• An IELTS score of 5.0 or above (though not necessary) or
• An equivalent score in an alternative English Proficiency Test such as TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge Test or
• A Certificate III in Intermediate English Communication or
• Successfully completed an Intermediate English course at a language school or
• Placement test to determine level if need be

• Comprehend oral texts with moderate complexity
• Interpret written texts with moderate complexity
• Contribute to a panel discussion with moderate complexity
• Request and provide practical advice
• Produce a comprehensive narrative
• Make a speech

• Use Upper Intermediate English for communication

Diploma of Advanced English Communication 30758QLD
Prerequisites
• An IELTS score of 5.5 or above (though not necessary) or,
• An equivalent score in an alternative English Proficiency Test such as TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge Test or,
• A Certificate IV in Upper Intermediate English Communication (UECOM400) or,
• Successfully completed an Upper-Intermediate English course at a language school or,
• Placement test to determine level if need be

• Comprehend complex oral texts
• Interpret complex written texts
• Produce complex written texts
• Ask and respond to difficult requests
• Provide detailed instructions
• Make and respond to a formal complaint
